Tom had an opportunity to testify before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Small Business, Subcommittee on Contracting and Workforce. Part of an effort to urge Congress to eliminate two impediments facing small architecture firms as they compete for government contracts, Tom explained that there are currently numerous impediments prohibiting small firms from competing for government work.
Tom underscored his argument noting the importance of keeping small, design-conscious firms in the mix for public work and spoke about his own experience working with the GSA.

The program was formed by the Govenor of Illinois and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to review and recommend funding to public museum applying for state-wide capital grants. This year the panel will review 66 applications and award a total of $15m in funding. Mark also served the state in the last panel for the program in 2010.
Tom had an opportunity to speak with Architect Magazine at the AIA convention in May, as a Young Architect Award recipient and as part of their ARCHITECT Video Series. Tom talks about the role and opportunity architects have when practicing within a context of ever-evolving change. He expresses his belief that architects are just the right people to bring the important topics of light, space and poetry back to the center of the discussion.
