The United States Department of State announced the selection of Krueck+Sexton to lead their renovation and rehabilitation projects at oversees US embassies, consulates and diplomatic facilities. Through their newly inaugurated Design Excellence program, K+S was chosen as a visionary architect to embed the highest values of American ideals into the rich tradition of foreign diplomatic buildings.

The latest issue of Architectural Record magazine includes a story entitled “The Architecture of Architecture Schools,” which includes some information and images in regards to S.R. Crown Hall at the Illinois Institute of Technology and our restoration work on Mies van der Rohe’s landmark building.
Robert Sharoff recently wrote a great piece on Wiel Arets, IIT’s new Dean for the College of Architecture. Read it here, including a quote by Mark Sexton with his thoughts on why he believes Aret’s will be an important asset to our city and to the Illinois Institute of Technology.
The new issue of Chicago Architect Magazine includes an insightful editorial by principal Tom Jacobs. Entitled “A Capitol Idea: Architect Testified Before Congress on Strengths, Needs of Small Firms,” it captures his experience testifying before the House of Representatives Small Business Subcommittee on Contracting and Workforce and his thoughts on how professionals practicing within small firms can take meaningful and active roles in leadership.
Tom had an opportunity to testify before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Small Business, Subcommittee on Contracting and Workforce. Part of an effort to urge Congress to eliminate two impediments facing small architecture firms as they compete for government contracts, Tom explained that there are currently numerous impediments prohibiting small firms from competing for government work.
Tom underscored his argument noting the importance of keeping small, design-conscious firms in the mix for public work and spoke about his own experience working with the GSA.
Tom had an opportunity to speak with Architect Magazine at the AIA convention in May, as a Young Architect Award recipient and as part of their ARCHITECT Video Series. Tom talks about the role and opportunity architects have when practicing within a context of ever-evolving change. He expresses his belief that architects are just the right people to bring the important topics of light, space and poetry back to the center of the discussion.
